Can anyone i.d. this shield medallion?

It is heavy and measures approx. 2-7/8 x 3 inches. It was hanging on a very heavy gold chain.... neither piece has any markings. I was thinking some sort of secret society or something like that. Any ideas? Thanks, Di.

It's a piece of costume jewelry....

I'm wondering if perhaps it's not something a man would wear at one of those Renaissance fairs? The internet is loaded with places that sell clothing, jewelry, etc. for those events. Tho it doesn't look old at all, the amber material in the center kind of reminds me of bakelite.

DH says costume jewelry too... vintage 70s. It's very heavy and the part that looks like bakelite in the photo is enameled as is the black.
Thanks for your thoughts! Di
