My guess these are flasks for carrying spirits such as rum or whiskey. Frontier soldiers were given a daily issue of rum to purify their drinking water, but I suppose this rum would have been carried in a canteen.

To me they look like the kind of thing companies bring out as a Christmas gift or some sort of special commemorative release.

I agree with Colleen....I think they are not old but rather new issued with the old style top. Grolsch beer uses a bottle with that kind of cap....anything on the bottles that might indicate that they were for beer?

The only markings are embossed on the bottom: 50cl, 55mm, A, 2, 3 and the maker's mark. There is also a seam around the glass, going from end to end. The length of the barrel is 4-1/2" and is 5-1/2" to top of spout.

The intriguing part is the "gold" trim. I can't recall seeing this type of trim on any beer or liquor bottles.

I also checked for any kind of smell that might indicate what it held...nothing. There isn't any smooth spot on it to hold a label either.

I can only chock it up to a neat curiosity.

A few things to consider.. is the white cap plastic? The volume is given in metric and embossed into the glass,, If it truly was an antique English item they didn't use metric, possibly some of the other countries as well.. I think it's just a recent commemorative bottle for some brand of liquor.
