Hi all i'm going to be selling a silver Moet et Chandon ice bucket on Ebay, its quite old and the silver could do with a polish. I was wondering if i should polish it myself to make it look better for the sale or if a true collector would rather buy it and polish it to their own standard. I don't want to damage it at all. Any info would be helpful. cheers

If it's plate, it would probably be good to have it polished somewhat--that way any wear can be seen. If you want more than a few bucks for it, a collector might be concerned that the tarnish is hiding bald spots. If it's not tarnished enough to hide wear, then I'm not sure. A gentle polishing shouldn't hurt it though.

Hi. Thanks for your informative reply. I'm looking to get around 600 for it. I have some goddards silver polish at work so I will probably give it a light going over based on your info. Thanks again Oliver

I agree a gentle polishing will not hurt anything but please do NOT remove the patina that develops around curlyques (sp?). Removing those would hurt value. Tarnish = Bad; Patina = Good. Important to learn the difference. /tricia
