Russian antique???

Good evening. I am in search of a resource that might be able to tell if the item I have is of any value. It was given to me a number of years ago. The only real story I received was that this was snuck out of Russia at a time when this would have been illegal. The person who brought it to the US then gave it to the person who I acquired it from as a gift. I have held onto it, but it really has no meaning to me. However, I do not want to throw it out if it does have value.

It appears to be a calendar with the image of Nicholas II? It is framed and seems well preserved.

I have no idea where to go with something like this as I am not a antique collector so I figured why not try here!! Hopefully someone might have a contact or direction for me.

For one thing - that's Lenin, not Nicholas II. No doubt depicted rallying the Bolsheviks for the revolution which began in 1917.

I don't know - calendars are usually in the ephemera class even framed and nicely preserved. But there might be a cross over interest for lovers of Russian history. I wouldn't hazard a value.

Showing Lenin addressing the masses - the print was first published about 1900 and was reused a lot .

It would not have been illegal to take the calendar out of the country.

This wall calendar is a typical piece of Soviet propaganda art. It commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Great October Revolution and features a reproduction of a well-known in the USSR painting depicting Vladimir Lenin proclaiming the Soviet power in 1917.

This type of cheap commemorative poster art was everywhere when I lived in the USSR. The tale about your piece being illegal and smuggled out of the country is a pure fantasy.

Speaking of a value, probably not much. My quick search for "soviet propaganda poster" on Ebay showed prices mostly in $5-$50 range. Since your calendar is relatively recent (from the 1970's), it would be on the low end.
