The wildly different pricing comes from many factors:

1 - Seller's hopes and assumptions about the value

2 - Local demand (in some areas you can't give them away and they are $$$ to ship)

3 - Seller's overhead (ritzy shop rent is factored into the price)

4 - Condition of table and its merits, it's position in the sales line of the original manufacturer ... wood species, hand-carved feet versus machine-scrolls, number of original parts, etc.

Make sure you are comparing apples to apples: I spotted a $14,000 table with hand-carved lion feet (fatter than the legs they were on, which means it was a more difficult carving job), elaborate pie crust trim, elaborate pedestal, quarter-swan oak and four original leaves.

Next was a $1600 table with lion feet, but not as well-carved, somple trim, simple pedestal and less dramatic figuring on the quartersawn oak, three leaves ... but it had the Hastings mechanism and name. It was just not from the top of the line Hastings offerings.

If a table is of the period, or in the style of, can mean big diffence in price
