Mengel dining set?

I found this set on craigslist and am wondering what it might be worth. The back of each piece says prov. wal. and the boxes that the leaves came in say Mengel. When I look up Mengel I see mostly more modern styles rather than the french provincial. Could the boxes just have been made by the Mengel Box Co, but not the furniture? Any ideas are helpful!! http://steph325.shutterfly.com

RE: Mengel dining set?

Mengel began making boxes and furniture somewhere around the civil war....and were still in business a few years ago...may still be making furniture.
they made stuff in all styles....your French provincial set look to be about 1970 by the style.
The name on the furniture means nothing, unless it's Kittinger or Davis or another very famous maker.
What counts is how well made it is and how much you are willing to pay.
