Free Scanguard software?
jean001a
Just happened across an offer to download Scanguard software for PCs free.
Does anyone know if the program is "safe" and worth it? Or is it just another gimmick I don't need?

I have downloaded the program and ran it and typical with these offers the program will not function until you up grade to the paid version. Now lets see if uninstalls cleanly...
It did uninstall cleanly and uses the Avira Anti virus engine.
It appears to be 50.00 a year for subscription..
Interesting reaction to this post. Malwarebytes immediately notified me that the script above was blocked by them as being a malicious site....and I didn't click on it. Just read this thread. Heads up, Zep!
I think it is a good thing to stay away from, regardless of cost. You might want to skim these comments to see why it looks suspect:

Save yourself some money and hassle and go with a free, reliable antivirus, like Avast...which I have been happily using for the last 5 years.
Thanks. I appreciate your comments.
It seems counter-intuitive, but sometimes software you get for free is better than something you pay for that hypes all the great things it supposedly will do....
It's almost impossible to find reviews for Scanguard on any of the well-established software review web sites that people trust. There are reviews to be found on sites I've never heard of where the software is described in glowing terms: "taken the internet by storm," or "causing shockwaves throughout the industry," or that people "are rushing to get their hands on the latest protection," or "is the world's leading antivirus protection." When all I can find is this kind of hype, it tells me all I need to know about this company and its products.
