loralee
Last week I became inundated with annoying pop up ads. I do not know why, I use firefox and went to the menu and checked out the content for blocks and do have a check mark in the box, to block pop up ads.
I do not know what else to try.
Can any one try to help me?
Thank you for for helping out.

I sure Hope I can find my way back to this new site. I sure had a hard time getting in. When the site first changed over I got in ok and not sure how I finally accomplished getting here today. I know I had been trying since 2:50pm to log in.
Do you also have AdBlock with Easy List?
https://adblockplus.org/
No, I don't have this. What is Easy List?
Thanks for responding I appreciate it.
Questions...
Have you scanned with Malwarebytes Free?
Have you scanned with AdwCleaner?
Have you scanned with anything else?
How about your AV? (What is it and have you scanned with it?)
Do the pop-ups happen only on specific sites or on all sites?
Did you install anything new last week?
---------------------------------
Keep in mind, I'm not an expert, just a user like you.
Correct, scan with Malwarebytes, adwcleaner, junk removal tool, reset the browser, Check for any odd looking programs in the uninstall programs list and remove them.
Google "Reset Firefox"
Hi Chuggerguy and Zep516, its so refreshing to see both of you still here.
I scanned with system mechanics. and it seemed to have started after running this.
I had looked at the add and remove to see if there was anything new since I had ran the system mechanics. I only found firefox upgrade and a new one from Firefox a Maintenance.
There was some sort of coupon printer for windows from a couple of weeks ago. So I uninstalled this earlier today.
I have not installed any new programs other than that coupon printer a early in August.
The popups pop up no matter where I am.
I do have Malwarebytes and Ad w Cleaner. After I get through with my canning this evening I will use both of these.
I had a terrible time logging into this site today. I had logged in right after Garden Web became houzz. Its been a long while since I was here. Had surgery 7 months ago and haven't been using the computer much. I am hoping I can get back on here tonight.
Is Junk remover tool part of adaware or a software of its own? Thanks
system mechanics from iolo another program you should consider uninstalling and anything else called iolo.
If you need additional help after post here in the spyware forum

PS its been a long time since I used CCleaner and I just looked at the list and do not remember what boxes I normally checked. Can you help me with this too? I don't want this to clean out something I should keep. Thanks
I've run into this problem on a couple of computers and it usually required Clearing Out the Browser (Firefox) History and Cookies. Once done they were gone. You will have to Login Into Site you may have set to Automatically Logon (User Name and Passwords).
Get junk removal tool here,
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/
Download an run it,
Run adwCleaner
Run Malwarebytes
If problems persists after then reset Firefox.

I tried everything last night spent half the night and wee hours of the morning.
Today, I decided to do a system restore and found out there are some disk errors and it will not do a system restore.
I have called the computer tech that I have come out to the house. I lucked out he is going to be in the area Tuesday and may be able to work it into his schedule. I think there is more going on then just the ads popping up.
I sure appreciated all the input that I have received here. Everyone is always so willing to help. I would think after all these years of having a computer I would have learned a lot more about computers than I know.
I have been a member of That Home Site, GardenWed, and now Houzz for maybe going on 20 years now. When ever That Home Site first started. Thanks to everyone for helping.

Problems like you were having typically result from installing programs that you find on the Internet...stuff like that coupon printer, which often typically come with all kinds of pop ups and malware.. Unless you are downloading known programs like Adobe, Firefox, Flashplayer, etc., from reliable sources, you're asking for trouble. And when you try to uninstall these programs they either don't uninstall easily or they uninstall and leave behind things that continue to mess up your computer. There are even programs that you pay for that seem to be legitimate antivirus programs that actually take control of your computer and can make a huge mess of things, and require expert help to get rid of.
After you get your computer fixed, please do not download and install any new programs you happen to find online - free or otherwise -or anything that's supposed to fix your computer or find malware because these things often are malware themselves. And if there's something you find that seems legitimate and you really think you have to have it, check here first to make sure that it's not going to mess up your computer again.
Thanks for the advice.
You know this is the first time I think, over the many years that I jumped and did this download. Normally, I am very paranoid and always check to be sure that the site is legitimate for downloading like you said an antivirus. or what ever software I am needing. I normally call the computer shop and ask.
I don't know what ever possessed me but it sure won't happen again, if I can help it.
About 10 days ago I had a strange phone call claiming to be a person from a software that I have. I just knew it was not legit, and after hanging up called my software company and they said they do not ever call their customers nor do they go in and work on customers computers. This person laughed at me when I said I would have my computer shop check it out. She said they won't be able to help you and it will only get worse.
Not sure if this was a coincidence or just dumb luck that these problems starting happening.
The phone call you got was from a scam artist so it's a good thing you hung up. However, that call has nothing to do with your current problems.
I've gotten calls twice from those scam artists who told me they are with Microsoft and they've detected problems with my Windows PC. When I tell them that's strange, since I only have Apple computers, they don't know what to say!
Oh, I am going to remember that line.
