A colorful boat in Rockport harbor (Maine)
Me at sunrise in the Jumping Cholla garden in Joshua Tree National Park, Calif. I walked away with a load of cactus needles in my right arm after this photo was taken. I was wearing four layers of clothing. Only pliers can be used to remove them. Fortunately we were advised to take needle-nose pliers with us.

Ouch!!! And 4 layers of clothing in the desert? Prickly AND hot! :)
Jasdip, I was wearing four layers of clothing because it is freezing cold in the desert at this time of year, especially when you get up before the sun. brrrrr. I had removed a fifth layer (a jacket) just to make it easier to move around.
The glowing light green cactus are called "jumping" Cholla for a good reasn, they seemingly jump right off the bush as you walk by. There are a bunch of round pieces scattered all over the ground that once they grab a shoe or pant leg are near impossible to remove. You will not find any volunteers to help you remove them unless there is a pair pliers available. :-)
