Did the most dreadful thing over the weekend.

I hate clothes shopping but I bit the bullet because I really need some clothes. I'm somewhat difficult to shop for. On top, long arms and massive biceps - only girl in the family and I got my dads arms. The girls are large as well. The bottom, I'm short and legs get skinnier every year. Native American so I have no hips. Everything has to be taken in in the hip and legs, can't stand big baggy clothes.

Went to Boston Store, it's associated with Carson Prairie Scott, should be able to get good quality, right. Wrong. I was shocked at the horrible styles and the fabric choices. Every rack I went to was "made in Indonesia", "made in Vietnam" and of course "made in China". The fabrics were terrible, I would imagine one washing and they'd be done with. Where do you shop? Like I said, I hate shopping. I really can't remember the last time I went. I usually shop at Goodwill and the online shopgoodwill.com auction but this year I need some good sweaters and things to keep me warm at the office.

I checked LL Bean and Lands End, wasn't real impressed. I'm very casual, don't like foo foo at all. I've checked Macy's, same thing there and Dillards just seems too fancy for me. Maybe I should just go back to making my own clothes and I suppose if I had time, I just might do that.

I was afraid your "dreadful" thing was really dreadful! Glad to know it was just no fun.

I like TJ Maxx and Marshall's, when I'm not shopping at Salvation Army.

Online, Sierra Trading Post has some good deals. Although if Lands' End wasn't casual enough for you, you might not go for Sierra's stuff either. And if you're hard to fit you'd probably be wise to stay away from online ordering.

In pants are you buying jeans? I get Levi's 525 short~~they fit my waist better not anything below the belly for me and the length is good straight leg or boot cut. Pants give me the most trouble so I really do wear jeans most of the time~~~tops I like JCPenneys they have a huge Liz Claiborne section now at mine and I can find wonderful tops at good prices.

I really am a tee shirt and jeans kinda gal~~but I love to shop, will only buy sale items~I buy a lot of things at Kohl's. Too bad I do not live by you I could be your personnal shopper;)

I do wear jeans alot and have found Gloria Vanderbilt's Amanda jean to be best for me. I've got that covered, I usually find them in the Goodwill stores or the auction. I've ordered from Sierra Trading post as well, haven't been too impressed with anything there as well. Shoes and boots are always a good choice for me there. Since I hate shopping and do it only when I have to which realistically is every 3-5 years I am out of touch with what's in the stores. My poor mom, 6 kids, 5 of which are boys and then there's me. She wanted a girly girl but that just isn't the case. She always wants to go shopping, I just dread it. Even at Christmas, I have my list and I'm in and out. Gift cards have really saved the day.
I'd really like to find some good quality leggings as I do wear alot of boots in the winter. I did find a pair this past weekend, Ralph Lauren but they were $109.00 for a pair of pants. I just couldn't justify that for polyester/cotton blend.

Try Cherokee jeans - they fit me perfectly.

Lunchlady1948 - where do you find the Levi 525s? I bought those once and loved them. I found themn on the clearance rack at JC Penney. I haven't found them again since, so I figured they were discontinued or something. I have "thin" thighs but a big gut. Those are the only ones that ever fit decent.

I do not buy at Lands End after trying to return them thru Sears. Big joke!!!
Have you checked Kmart--their brand? Sometimes yes, sometimes not so good. Someone here did post some made in USA places, not sure where now. Have you checked places like Cabellas, Big 5 or other sporting good places? You said you were Native American--are you near a Casino, and asked the people who worked there. We saw some great outfits at Mystic Lake Casino in Minn. Hope you find something you feel comfortable in.

Juellie I have gotten them at Macy's and at Kohl's, I seem to have the most average size so I have to hunt for them, I also wear the short size and they do not seem to order as many. But both stores if they do not have your size will order them for you on their .com sites and it is free shipping.

Sounds like you want to update your wardrobe a bit. So many of us have difficulty with todays fashions. I am nt sure exactly who they ae made for.
I like good quality clasic clothing that will last for many years. I just keep making the rounds to all the stores mentioned above and to Ann Taylor, Loft and Talbots. Of course check the sales racks.
If something works, I will get it in another color or two.
I think it is sad that even if I go into a department store with no budget in mind, I still walk out empty handed.
When you find clothes that look and feel good, you can't help but feel good too.
