Please Help with Breakfast Nook Furniture

bluej422December 7, 2012

Hi all. We have light maple cabinets, white/grey countertops and are trying to pick out furniture for the breakfast nook area. We'd appreciate any advice or recommendations.

We're really looking for some comfortable, simple, casual seating to fit in this small bay window area that flows with what's going on in the kitchen but isn't too matchy-matchy. We'd like to do small round pedestal table (36-40")in a darker stain, but we're worried about how that dark wood would work with all the lighter wood in the kitchen space. Would a distressed white table work better? We found a curved banquette that we think would like nice in the space, but figured we probably ought to settle on a table first.

For what it's worth the other side of the kitchen opens up to our formal dining room and the breakfast nook opens up to our family room. There's no shortage of seating, but we do want somewhere comfortable to have coffee, do a crossword, have a casual dinner for 2, etc.

Any suggestions on colors, tables, and lighting (since I don't really like the current light in this area) would be appreciated. Thanks very much!

Perhaps you could find a two tone table with the bottom painted and a wood top. The example below is not the size or shape that you are considering but perhaps you could find the same color scheme in a round table. The grey legs would tie in nicely with your beautiful countertops and the dark wood tabletop compliments the floors. The Pottery Barn table that you posted is beautiful but since your space is fairly small you might want to consider a pedestal table that is not quite as heavy looking.
