Looking for shelving

jlirotNovember 20, 2012

I really like the stainless shelves in this kitchen:

anyone have any ideas where i might be able to get something like this? i'm just about to place my cabinet order so i really don't have much time to screw around with plan changes. but, i just came across this today and it might be a nice alternative to one wall where I was going to put (upper) cabinets.

does everyone else have problems with speed on this site? i swear everything loads at about 1/4 the speed of any other site/forum i use. i can click to open the site and go get lunch while i'm waiting for it to open up....

You can get some stainless metro shelving from a restaurant supply house. Or you can find stainless overshelves designed to go over a worktable and resting on support poles dogged into the counter.

But to do something exactly like that will involve a custom metal fabricator and be pretty expensive.

Double check your commitment to cleanliness before deciding on open shelving. You must first of all have a really good kitchen vent---and use it. And you must second of all plan to wipe out most of the dishes that you plan to use that have been sitting more than a couple of days. Ideally, only heavily used items would go on the shelves and the constant use would keep them dust free. Most people love the look of open shelving, but fall short of the ability to actually live with it.

I'll second that- can you imagine cleaning all those shelves AND dishes constantly? Pretty isn't always practical. What would happen if something happened to you and you were unable to clean them (broken leg, health issues) would your spouse keep up? I only ask because I've been there- It was so bad I kept begging DH to find a cleaning lady, he in turn put it off for so long I ended up doing the work myself and ended up back in the hospital...

I don't even have knicknacks around the house. Dust catchers IMHO.
