First Post - Kitchen Remodel Floorplan Help Needed

ccasanovaOctober 11, 2012

We have completely gutted my grandfather's 60s era ranch house, in hopes of renovating it into a somewhat rustic South Louisiana/Creole home. After removing a wall and kitchen peninsula we have a nice large space for a kitchen. However, we continue to struggle with the layout. The cabinet designer and I have come up with the following drawing which the wife and I are happy with, but not completely satisfied. After several months and hours of research here, I am ready for my first post and humbly request your thoughts, ideas and comments.

Thanks all

A few details-

The top left L shaped portion houses the heater/ac unit
The dining room is to the left side of the drawing
The living/family room is below the drawing
There is an 8x8" post in the corner of the L shaped island
There is a window over he sink

We are considering Fridgidaire Professional side by side units instead of the current pantry/fridge shown.

is the living/family room basically a great room?....with no other smaller den or family room? Is the dining room[would be nice if you showed it], the main seated eating area?

I'm having a hard time seeing all the details in the pic because it's too small. Is it possible you could post a larger picture? I think you'd get more responses. Plus provide some details about what you want from the space. Do you need/want seating/eating space in the kitchen? Kids? How many cooks?

From what I can see, you don't have anything on that run of cabinets on the bottom. I can't see that area serving any purpose. You certainly won't use it for working or preping. I'd be inclined to get rid of that run of cabinets entirely and use that space to make the island larger. Then I'd add a prep sink to the end of the island by the fridge.

BTW, when you start a new thread, it remains at the top of the board until you start getting responses. When you responded to your own post, your thread started dropping down the board. Try posting larger pictures so people can see the details and provide more information all in one post. I think that would help a lot. :)

Before you do...check out the "Read Me" thread. It contains some things to start thinking about. In addition, it has a "Layout Help" topic that describes what information we need to help you find the best plan for you and your family.

I've linked to the "Read Me" thread below.
