Limestone on Kitchen Island

jshkshOctober 10, 2013

Hi,

I am in love with a Ivory Colored Durango Limestone and want to use it for my kitchen island. Bad... So many people have told me not to, but there are some people out there who have it and love it.

I cook alot and I have kids, but we are super on top of our kitchen cleaning.

Is there any product out there that duplicates the creamy ivory travertine-like look?

Please chime in.

Thanks!

Yeah, people complain about marble and limestone has the same problems only worse.

There are several quartz products that have a similar look: Caesarstone Dreamy Marfil, and Silestone Caramel Rhine, Tigris Sand, Daria, or Yellow Nile.

Did you see this thread already? oldryder and karin_mt both weigh in as anti-limestone for practical reasons. I sympathize with you. I really wanted Jerusalem Limestone counters because they are full of fossils, but what I read convinced me not to do it.

Here is a link that might be useful: Limestone for counters

I had gotten some limestone samples when I was considering it for our bathroom. I was able to severely etch it to the point it looked ruined in less then a day. Don't do it.

I wonder if you could make the limestone a feature in the island? Perhaps a wide walnut butcher block frame, and center inset of the limestone?
