Replace microwave with pro style hood in quick remodel, or not?

KevinMPSeptember 13, 2012

Should I ditch this microwave (which I do like) for a unobtrusive stainless hood (i.e., a 9-11" high, 18"-21" deep model)? I already have the current microwave vented to the outside, so ducting is not an issue.

Here's the current view:

As detailed in other posts, I'm doing a quick remodel of my 2-year-old kitchen, replacing the doors and drawer fronts on my existing cabinets (and repainting the maple hardwood boxes) off white (all will be Aristokraft's Landen in antique white to match a new wall unit I'm having installed with a built-in warming drawer). I've just purchased a new Dacor dual-fuel range (DR30DNG), so keep that in mind. So the Frigidaire Professional will be replaced.

Here's the wall unit design and the new range:

So it would look something like this:

If you're wondering what I'll do for a microwave, I would use a small microwave in my wall unit (like the miniature Whirlpool others on here have put into appliance garages, etc.).

My vote is for ditching the microwave over the range. I was able to do that in my remodel and it's so much nicer having a vent hood. You will probably get better lighting with the hood as well as more space and stronger venting action.

I'd do it in a minute given your options.
