Install Countertop before or after existing cabinets are painted

3kidsonedogandusSeptember 23, 2013

I will be having my cabinets handpainted as a "green" (ecologic and economic) alternative to ripping out perfectly good, functional cabinets. I am also replacing my grotty laminate countertop with granite and ripping out old backsplash with a new tiles to complement the new countertop. I have been getting conflicting advice about which order these should be done. Which job should be done first, second and last?

I'd do demo, paint, counters if I could spare the down time. Paint, demo, counters if I couldn't. I don't see that it makes a whole lot of difference, but I think painting the top rail would be a bit easier without the counters in place.
