Question for Cabinet Installers

ladoladiSeptember 16, 2012

Our cabinets are hard maple and so is our light rail (molding for bottom of cabinet). The molding is about 1-1/2" thick and we're using 2" brads, appropriate gun and appropriate compressor. The brads are not going through to the cabinet. They're not sticking out of the nailing end, but they're not coming out on the other end either. It's like they're bending inside of the molding. Any suggestions for how to attach the light rail?

Thanks.

DH installed ours with screws. Pre-drilled pilot holes and countersunk the heads. He didn't want to risk having the nails come through the front of the cabinet faces. Maybe slight overkill, but it worked. Our cabinets are maple.

I did mine with pocket-hole screws. (The common brand name for the tool that makes these is the Kreg Jig.) I put the pocket holes on the back inside surface, so you cannot see the screws from the front nor from inside the cabinet.

I love pocket holes! So convenient.
