Old Stove

RedthistleDecember 22, 2012

I am here out of desperation. I own a 1902 home that I've been renovating for 12 years.

I bought a 1920's Tappan stove when we first purchased the house with the intention of using it. Supposedly it works. Turns out it was too big for the space when the kitchen was finally renovated. In addition, my mother passed away leaving me HER 1920's green Quick Meal stove.

I've tried to sell the Tappan stove, and it just doesn't happen. I've only asked 2/3rds of what I paid for it but I haven't had even one person look at it.

Do any of you have a suggestion for using an old stove as a decorative piece in the home? Could it be made useful in some way besides for cooking? It's been sitting in the parlor for 12 years and I'm tired of it. (Incidentally, the floors and window have been re-done since this photo was taken.) Thanks!

Mama Goose has an old stove she uses for storage. It is delightful. Run a search for her name on here for pics, am not sure where she has this placed. You may have people who restore and sell as a business listed too. Call antique stores and see who sells appliances like these. Usually one man shops that do so with love of the past.

Here is a link for how to find/sell antique appliances.

Maybe cross-post on the GW Kitchens forum. There are some vintage stove owners there.

Also, check out the forums on RetroRenovation where you can target people who are really interested in these stoves.

Thank you both. I will indeed search for Mama Goose and will look at the sites you suggested.
