Painted Rocking Horse Project

ttoddDecember 29, 2013

This month DH refinished this Rocking Horse for someone to give as a gift to her granddaughter. It had originally been the son's and she asked that we make it more girlie. Typically we ONLY refinish and repair but knowing that I really wanted to start decorative painting again and fulfill my dreams business wise, DH asked if I would do something w/ it.

So one night right before Christmas I started painting. It's been years since I've picked up a paint brush to decoratively paint furniture and I was really nervous but I'm pleased w/ the results. I tried to keep the head and tail similar to the original. She requested blue eyes so I did change the eyes.:

Thank you very much! Looking forward to finishing my next project - a Union Jack violin w/ a potential order for a violin w/ the Taiwanese flag on the horizon and I was asked to paint an heirloom cradle for a client after it's refinished.

Adorable! You hit it precisely -not so much as to hide the original, but enough to make it girlie! Love it...

It's beautiful! That little horse looks so much happier : )

Did you need to do any light sanding prior to painting so the paint would adhere?

Also, did you trace a pattern or did you paint it freehand?
