Capital Culinarian questions

eranmegAugust 25, 2013

Hello there!

We are upgrading the kitchen in the house we just bought and I finally get to try and put together the kitchen I want.

After looking, trying and reading everything there is we are getting close to landing on the Capital Culinarian - 36" range top with all gas burners. We tried it out and were impressed by the even heat, power and surprisingly the simmer as well.

A few concerns between us and falling back to the equivalent, though sealed burner,Wolf (we have been happy with them for a while now)...

1) Does anyone out there have a picture of the new 8,000 BTU burners? What's their diameter? The stores here all have the older models on the floor and I am worried about small pots.

2) Any recent experience with shipping times on these guys? The forum is full of horror stories, but they seem to be from the early days.

3) And last - how have folks 'gotten past' the concern that this is a start-up and V1 product? How do we know they will be around in a few years and have the parts and support necessary if there are problems? (especially since there is no real longevity track record for the product).

Any thoughts, advice and answers would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Eran.

I have a 36" CC 6 burner rangetop. The "small pan" burner (top left) looks like this:

1. The burner is the same size as the others, but the diameter of the holes is smaller and there are fewer of them. I've put all my pans, large and small, on that burner.

2. Mine was ordered over two years ago and came on time without issue.

3. I was slightly concerned about this also at first. From what I read over in Appliances before purchasing, these are very, very simple machines. No electronics. Any repair person knowledgeable enough to work on a BS or KA or Wolf rangetop should be able to repair a CC. You might order a few extra spark modules if you're concerned that Capital won't be around in 20 (or whatever....I have no idea about their longevity) years when/if you need them.

I assume you've slogged through the dozens of threads on the CC over in Appliances. If you can get past the testosterone-filled arguing, you'll find lots of helpful info.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey there,

A quick follow-up. I played around with the small burner today at the shop and was impressed (especially after turning it down lower than it was set).

I am wondering - in the past complained that the beans/ham dish didn't work even on a stacked burner. Is this problem solved for you now that you have the 8K?

Also - for anyone out there with a CC do you put alum foil on the top drip pans or just the slide out ones?

Thanks!

I have the culinarian with the small pan burner as well. It is the same size as the rest, just less the outer ring of holes.

My delivery was a nightmare due to the retail outlet selling my original out from under me after I fully paid but asked them to hold it. I scheduled delivery for a later date. My granite guys wanted the range top on site for measurement. I tried to get the item a few days earlier and got an extreme amount of run around. I was furious to say the least. But that is my retailer's fault, not the manufacturer.

I did put foil on the lower slide outs, but I'd be worried at melting foil onto the drip pans on which the cast iron grates rest.
