help with shutter color on gray house

jaaaNovember 7, 2010

We have a light gray colonial house with cream trim. We need some advice on what color shutters would look best with this color combination. We cannot change the color of the siding or the trim.

Our current shutters are a pale green but I imagine that they used to be hunter green originally. Should we stick with hunter green or go with a different color, like black or burgandy? All of the gray homes with black shutters I have seen have white trim so I wasn't sure if black would look right with the yellowish cream trim. Would hunter green or burgandy be a better alternative? My gray traditional colonial home is rather boring so I am hoping that the new shutter color will liven it up some. Any advice is appreciated.

What about a deep plum or eggplant color for the shutters, and a deep charcoal grey door?

Or, deep navy shutters and a rust colored door?

Another vote for Les' wonderful idea for deepest darkest eggplant or plum shutters. And the deep charcoal gray door. Classy and elegant!

Or the classic semi-gloss Charleston green shutters -- a VERY dark green -- with the surprise of a dark red door.

Or how about semi-gloss midnight blue shutters -- with a creamy yellow door?

I've always liked grey with a dark red. The right shade of red would look great with the cream.

But plum or eggplant also sound lovely.
