Lower Cost Alternative to Poggenpohl?

scrasherAugust 15, 2014

Hey everyone,
I fell in love with these Poggenpohl Teak Lava Cabs:

The problem is they are quoting $18K in nyc. I tried AsterCucine and a few others and no one will go lower than $14K for just lower cabs. Still outside of my budget.

Does anyone have any lower cost similar looking alternatives (perhaps in the $7-11K range for roughly 15 linear feet)?

The cabinets pictured are "textured laminate in Teak Lava". I used Bellmont 1900 cabinets to achieve a similar look. My cabinets were just under $15,000 for a 10' island (10' of cabinets on one side, 5' on the other side), 11' of uppers and lowers, refrigerator and dw panels. They're also textured laminate on the bottom, and acrylic on the top (NOT thermofoil). I'll post a picture later when I get home. Here's a picture of the island.

The Poggenpohl are melamine. They look very much like the IKEA Sofielund.

Another one is by Martha Stewart, Weston

Shiloh textured melamine

Or get IKEA boxes and doors by semihandmade, e.g. Teak flatsawn (but there are plenty of others, walnut, Wenge, etc.)

Shiloh is using the new tafisa melamines that are pretty nice, of course the reveals between fronts and the internal gadgets do not come close to PP...but you can get the basic "look" in your price range

Here is a link that might be useful: Mel colors
