Alternatives for Cambria Newport

MinkerAugust 1, 2012

I thought you all might have some suggestions on alternatives to Cambria Newport. We just learned that we will have to have a seam in our island and I'm concerned that the light color of the quartz and delicate pattern will make the seam very noticeable. The island is pretty large (maybe 80 inches), so I'm really struggling with this.

If anyone has a photo of their seam with Newport, I'd love to see it.

Our kitchen will be white shaker on the perimeter (with Cambria Oakhampton countertops). The island will be an espresso cherry shaker. Here is a link to an inspiration photo:

Quartzite seems like an option, but I worry about upkeep and staining. We wanted to keep the island countertop light, but it is used as our main eating space, homework center, and craft space. Am I nuts to be thinking about quartzite?

Your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are appreciated!

Have you looked into Caesarstone Organic White or Nougat?

Cambria slabs are less than 80 inches? Our peninsula is 99 X 40 inches and we did one slab of Caesarstone. We also looked at Pental Chroma, a new quartz company out of Seattle, and their slabs are 119 x 55.
