Would you put pantry items next to the rangetop

CT_NewbieAugust 24, 2013

I'm getting rid of most of my pantry closet and turning it into a mudroom. I have lots of cabinet space in the new kitchen. I'm debating if I should store pantry items in the cabinets next to the stove top (upper and lower). Things in there could be dry pasta, rice, boxes of cous cous, canned goods, baking supplies, chips, etc. I would keep the cereals and the kids' cookies in the cabinet near the eat in kitchen table as I read as the kids get older put things that they want away from the stove.

Is there any issue with heat from the stove? I think my small appliances or pots would be stored directly under the rangetop.

Thank you!

I guess the amount of heat could depend on the type of range and hood you have. My mother had that type of stuff stored over her wall oven and little bugs would hatch in them. I wouldn't think a regular range would not generate a lot of heat.
