Best wood species for grain matching fake out

LoPayJune 1, 2013

If you wanted a consistent orientation of wood grain on your cabinets, what species would give the appearance of being grain matched with out actually being matched? Or should I ask, what species would have less variation in the grain from one piece to the next?

Do certain species look better orientated one way than other?

How bad would light walnut stain look on birch or maple to attempt a grain matched look over eight feet of frame less drawers?

TexasPenny did a great job with her cheery and lay out, but I want something in a browner tone.

Rift Cut White Oak is pretty linear. So is straight grain Mahogany.
