Bronze Durability in the Kitchen?

wawCooksJune 20, 2013

So we are deciding between two different kinds of pulls. Price is similar for the large appliance pulls between the two options (Emtek 86334 is sandcast bronze and JW Bel Castel is zinc but would come in an oil rubbed bronze finish). However, the Emtek 4" pulls are 40% more than the zinc with a bronze finish. I am thinking that the sand cast bronze will look better long term (the handles will wear to a golden patina where we touch it regularly) but have no clue what silver zinc with a bronze overlaid finish will wear to. Any feedback/thoughts? I have never purchased any metals in a bronze finish so am a little concerned.

I wanted solid brass in my kitchen as I wanted something heavy duty. We went with a solid brass with bronze finish and the pulls are way more than I expected in the way of beauty and heft. Pulls and knobs are one of the most used items in a kitchen so IMO buying the best quality that you can afford makes sense.

Thanks Holly-kay. Appreciate the feedback. Bronze 4" pulls run from $14 - $35 for ONE. Zinc (with bronze finish) is $10 for one 4" pull which I didn't think "cheap". What do people typically spend for pulls in good kitchens? There will be soooooooooooooo many pulls I am trying not to go over the top and have already splurged on sooooo many things... :)
