Removing the female connector on a light string

oldalgebraOctober 5, 2011

This is the end of a LED light string I purchased online.

I was hoping to feed the light string through a narrow PVC pipe to complete a Halloween decoration.

I did not count on the end of the string having a plug to attach additional strings.

Three wire feed into the capsule shaped portion and two come out and go into the female plug.

Can the plug end be cut off and the two wire emerging from the capsule be attached to each other?

Thank you for your time.

It's not recommended, but you can cut off the plug, though DO NOT connect the two wires together. Wrap the ends separately and tightly with electrical tape.
Be advised - This will void the UL certification of the light string.

If you connect the two wires together you will create a dead short
tripping the breaker/fuse and possibly damaging the lights. If you must
remove the courtesy outlet seal the cut ends with a waterproof cement
such as silicon rubber sealant.
