I like the way the first one works with the dark wall color in the adjacent room. That's my vote!

I think both rugs are too big for the space. Could you put the short end parallel with the door and have the rug run into the foyer?

I actually like the size. I had a smaller one and just pulled it. It is too long to run the other way. It would hit te steps. This is a 4x6. Maybe I should try a 3x5? I had a 2x3 and that was def too small.

How does it look pulled out from the door so the floor "frames" it?

My vote is for #1.

I like #1 based on its color and your paint, but I am like KSWL, I would like the rug turned the other direction, running north/south instead of east/west.

I love the first rug because it is a nice contrast to the floor.

I'll add my vote for #1, smaller size. This size looks like it was shoe-horned into the space.
