200 amp or 400am for main switch

ras9999August 3, 2010

We are doing a new house 2 story, 3800 sqr foot.

I think builder has 200amp for the main switch.

Is that good or do we need to upggrade to 400amp ?

I would go to 600 just to be safe.

Sure, 400a would be better in the long run, but a couple of thousand dollars better right now.
The fact that the ONLY information you have given us is the sq footage makes it impossible to even guess.

Seriously, this is a question for him, not us.

The electrician should have done a load calculation. Ask for the results and then you will know.

It depends on your heat, cooking and dryer. If it is all elec, 400. if your heat is not elec, 200 is fine.
