Protecting a table top

Phobie PrivettDecember 27, 2009

I have a fairly new formal dining room table. It hasn't seen a tremendous amount of use, however, I'm starting to notice after several meals this week, that there are lots of tiny superficial scratches on the top. You can literally see everything that someone slid across the top. I paid a ridiculous amount of money for this table and thought the finish would be better than it is. Is there anything I can do to protect it in the future and/or take care of the scratches? I was wondering about some sort of wax. FYI, it has grooves in the top, like planking, if that makes sense. TIA!!

I just wanted to clarify that these are very fine scratches. Thanks
