Help needed identifying wood on cabinets

lonestarladyDecember 7, 2007

We recently had granite tops put in, and I need newels to support the larger island top. I'd like to find something ready made as close to the wood on my cabinets as possible. Matching the stain is not a problem. I believe my cabinets and wainscotting are birch, but I'm not 100% certain. Can you tell by looking at this photo? It appears the trim is a different wood, as it is soft and mars easily.

Thank you for your help!

All you need to match is any light wood will do. The grain you see on your wainscoting will not be apparant in a newel post.

Looks as though it could be birch. From this distance it could also be hard or soft maple.
