inset cabinet doors-what clearance?

weedyacresNovember 11, 2013

I'm building some cabinets. They've got face frames, and I want to buy doors to go into the frames, inset. My question: how much smaller should the doors be than the opening? 1/8" clearance all around? 1/8" total? More? Less?

3/32 all around.Doors are trimmed to 3/16 smaller than opening, then centered in the hinging.

The cabinet is held square by the back panel. When you fasten on the becking, affix one side completely and then force the cabinet into square as you fasten on the next side.

Good tip, aidan. I've also purchased a couple Kreg 90 degree clamps to help square up the face frames when I screw them together.
