Can I put a larger wattage bulb into a nightlight base (like a candelabra light - 40 or 60 watt bulb) or would bad things happen?
The device is very likely to overheat and be damaged, or even cause a fire.
That's what I was afraid of. Okay. Thanks for your help.
If space allows, there are some fairly small candelabra base compact flourescent light bulbs available. smallest I've seen are 5 watts. These will give you far more light than a 5 or 7 watt incandescent bulb usualy used in night lights. These should be safe as far as heat generation.
That depends. If it is a sensor nightlight, you must stick with incandescent. If it is a switch, you can use a cfl or led. Do not exceed 7w.
