power outlet suddenly not working well

chuehMay 18, 2013

The light switch does not work all the time. It turns the lights on by chance. Usually, if I flip the switch hard, it is not working. I have to gently flip it with the right pressure. neither too hard or too gentle would work.

It should be just the problem from the switch, right? If wiring was working before, it should be always working.....right?

The switch or the wiring immediately at the switch would certainly be the first place to check.

Thank you ronnatalie. Would you mind telling me WHAT to look for when checking, voltage or else and HOW to check?

No, I'd primarily do a physical inspection. Make sure the wires are firmly attached to the screws, etc.... But I'd have a replacement switch handy. It's likely to be the switch itself.

Watch especially for 'back stabbed' connections.

They are notorious for not staying tight.

Just replace the switch. You are going to have to remove it to troubleshoot the problem anyway. They are less than $2.00 so it is worth doing.
