Bottom part of double hung window keeps opening...

blondelleNovember 1, 2011

We have old double hung windows and one of them even after being firmly closed, opens by itself about an 1" or so from the sill. The lock no longer works. Any way to stop it from doing that, or do I just need to get a draft blocker? Thanks!

Do you know what type of balance system you have?

Can you replace the lock?

Your house is haunted!
Seriously, I think you have weight balance pockets that sometimes move around on their own, lifting the window.
Just a guess. But a window lock will probably work.
