quick help? Need conditioner w/ Zar oil based stain on Pine?

huangoOctober 31, 2009

Hello,

I have a pine bench that I want to stain dark to match 2 bookcases. I have the Zar oil based wood stain in Moorish Teak #123.

--> Do I need a wood conditioner?

Zar boasts that it has controlled penetration so no streaks, etc. But then it also gives an optional Zar tung oil wipe on finish wood conditioner for soft wood.

Would you also use a wood conditioner when using Zar stain on pine?

Thank you very much for your help.

Would like to start the project today.

Off to sand the bench.

Amanda

Yes, pine splotches. The only variable is how much.

Conditioner minimizes the blotching.
