Need decision soon interior doors - what type of wood?

goldenoneSeptember 17, 2007

Bids from the GC on interior doors have come in quite pricy on both Alder and Cherry. Oak doors are in the bid but was not really looking for something with all that grain. The GC says you can stain darker and that they look good, I'm waiting for a picture. He also is getting a quote on fir doors. Does anyone have any pictures to share on darker oak stained doors or fir interior doors? Maybe we should just switch to white doors but I really like the look of a stained door with white trim. Help!

Here's hard maple with a dark stain (look down the page a little). It's a more subtle grain, but lovely. Not gonna go real dark.

Here's white oak with a very dark stain (scroll to bottom picture). If you're going that dark, it's gonna tone down the oak grain a good bit.
