Do your windows make noise when they get cold?

dgmarieNovember 5, 2007

We have two large window "walls" in our home. The back of the house faces due East. There is a triple french door, upon which sits a triple window (non functional), upon which sits a 9 ft long by 4.5 ft tall arch windows. They make up almost the entire wall (see photo). When the weather gets cold, every evening we hear this thing contract: a very loud POP! The house is nearly ten years old, nothing wrong with the windows we can see. Assume this has been popping for years now. The window guy who came out for something else said not to worry; it's a lot of glass. He said if this were a problem we'd have seen it by now (midwest and very cold winters)

Thoughts? Should we be concerned?

Glass does flex. It's supposed to. But, it doesn't pop and crack. I think it's probably the arched casing trim that is expanding/contracting that causes this sound.

hopefully if it is the casing trim expanding/contracting it won't break!
