colorful designs on furniture using stain

anniefranSeptember 6, 2009

I have admired the furniture that has eye-catching graphic designs on the front--I'm assuming done with stains. Butler Furniture has some on its website.

Does anyone have advice on how to accomplish this? I'm thinking about staining an old piece of teak furniture that is a little outdated and could use a little splash of fun. Ay advice?

Here is a link that might be useful: Colorful design at Butler--how did they do it??

It is about impossible to get clean lines like on that chest with wood stains/dyes without inlaying/piecing the pieces. Making a design such as in that picture is called marquetry.

The only technique I can imagine that would be possible to do with a single piece of wood and different stains/dyes would look like tie-dying.
