wood shutters

Would like to install interior wood shutters on some of our windows. However, if they mount inside window frame, they interfere with swing out windows for cleaning. They are double hung that flip inside for cleaning. Obvious solution would be to mount them outside the frame. Has anyone had any experience doing this - worried about how this would look. If I mount inside frame, would need to fully remove shutters to tip windows for cleaning. thanks for your help.

I think there is an offset hinge that would solve this problem; the pin is about 3/8" to the outside of the shutter edge, so when folded back there is extra clearance. If you have extension jambs, the shutters have to be mounted out at the casings for the offset hinges to function.
The second way is to use loose-pin hinges (or lift-off hinges) and take them down each time you wash windows.
