Filling nail holes in trim
We did a complete gut remodel of our house, and used VG clear fir for the baseboards and trim around the doors and windows. They were finished with 3 coats of satin poly hand rubbed in, sanding between each coat. No stain was used, and they look great.
Our carpenter recommended we wait a year or two until the wood aged and darkened before filling the nail holes. We're at almost 2 years now, and I figured it's time to do the job.
I wasn't sure what would be the best product to use...do you all recommend the wax based putty that seems to be easier to blend to the correct color? Or the wood product filler that dries and hardens? Both seem to have pros/cons.
