HGTV storage table ottoman

lora03August 26, 2005

I saw an amazing storage ottoman on HGTV episode dsc911 of Designer's Challenge on 8/24. Can anyone instruct me on how to make this oversized storage ottoman with 4 individual openings on top? My husband & I are handy, but are not sure of the best way to attempt this project, especially what to use to sit the lids on. The photo looks like a light or painted wood with nice clean lines.Help anyone?? thanks

Sorry this probably won't help much. DH & I made a footstool/storage box out of an old bureau drawer. For the top,we made an insert out of plywood, added padding and upholstery. We bought 4 short screw-on legs for it.

Not exactly what you are looking for but I used the plans from this storage ottoman to build more of a storage container by increasing the size: http://www.workbenchmagazine.com/main/pdf/wb295-ottoman.pdf

I used 1/2" oak finished plywood, a few old hinges and and a handle on the front for accent. Finished it off with 3 coats of a stain/urethane combo, sanding with a 320 between coats. To stop the lid from slamming I used clear square stops and I also used them on the bottom of the legs so it doesn't scratch the hardwood. Did this all with a circular saw and a manual hand saw for the smaller pieces.
