Bottom mount drawer glides, where?

jjaazzyAugust 28, 2011

I want to put some sliding drawers in a pantry type closet. But the closet is to have a bi-fold door. This combo will not work cause the bi-fold will block the path of the drawer being pulled out. Ok, so my solution to this problem is to install shelves and then on the open side of the cabinet (probably 3/4 of the shelf put in a drawer but mount it to the bottom of the drawer an the top of the shelf. Problem is I don't know who has the hardware for this. When I search "bottom mount drawer glides" I still get glides that attach at the side walls. Anyone have a source for what I am looking for. Old dressers would mount this way down the middle underneath. They didn't work that great but figure they would have something ball baring these days.

No, they generally didn't. Those guides on the bottoms of old dresser drawers help with alignment and positioning, but they don't support the weight of the open drawer.

That said, I think this is pretty close to what you're looking for. Such slides are inherently light-duty; they can't support nearly the weight that a taller side-mounted slide can.

I find that Lowe's carries a fairly extensive selection of drawer glides in their hardware department, if you don't want to mail order and just need one or two. Rockler Woodworking and Hardware also carries some heavy-duty ones (and regularly runs free shipping offers).

For quantities and lots of choices, see the link below.
