Vinyl, Wood, Clad, Aluminum Oh boy!!!

midwestmamaOctober 28, 2009

We're doing a new construction farmhouse style home in Iowa. The builder has mentioned wood vs vinyl etc... I have no idea. I'd like great energy efficiency, a reasonable cost, a nice look, and low maintenance.

Can you give me a basic primer on the pros and cons of the various options? Theyd be double hung or decorative windows, no casement.

Vinyl are going to be cheaper, more efficient, and easier to maintain. Wood will probably have better resale value, but if that is not a concern, you are hard pressed to legitimize the delta.
