Stain, stain and paint...

oruborisJuly 11, 2007

Gonna cross post this with Homebuilding because I need answer[s] ASAP: don't how this snuck up so fast...

I'd like everyone's opinions on the longest wearing exterior semi-transparent stain and paint [for the trim]. I need something I can get locally, so not really looking for internet sources. This is to go over cedar siding. I live dry area where UV is a much bigger concern than dampness.

I'm also looking for a stain and finish for the interior of my Andersen windows. Pine or fir, not sure which. What brand of stain, what sort of protectant, how many coats? These are grided [muntoned?], so it would be super hard to sand between coats. Since these are 400 series, I'm hoping there won't be a great deal of condensation, but I want to be safe.

Go check out a Sherwin Williams paint store. If there are no SW, try Benjamin Moore. They both have those finishes and can add extra UV protection.
