Comparing PGT and Jeldwen impact rated sliding patio doors

sherwhySeptember 24, 2012

We are comparing PGT and Jeldwen Impact rated sliding patio doors and windows. Considerations: Reliability, strength, design pressure, leakage of water and air, insulation value, noise transmition, UV rating and price. Does anyone have experience with both of these manufacturers. We are building on a bayou in Pensacola, Florida.

No clue on PGT but there is nothing good I could say about anything Jeldwen in the way of windows and or patio doors.

PGT seems to be well regarded and have aggressive pricing for a well built product.

That not withstanding, as millworkman said, it would probably get the nod over Jeld-Wen unless it was known as a poor performer.

Jeld-Wen's reputation for customer service and honoring of warranties has been spotty to say the least.
