Wooden Pantry Shelves

brianadarnellJune 7, 2011

Hi All,

I really really want to have my DH outfit my pantry with some sweet wooden shelves. The quote from our GC was $2000 which I equated to the fact that they just don't want to do it.

My question is this: How are your wooden shelves supported? I have an 80" run and a 70" run and I really wanted to avoid the dividers that make it feel like little cubbies where you cant put anything too long. I want it to look more like arlosmom's pantry with 16" deep shelves on both walls. We plan to use a wood grade (or just below) plywood. Is that the right material?

Any ideas on how to support the long runs would be apprecaited. TIA!

I suggest you read the attached article. It will give deflection for various materials and principles of beam support.
