Need Bookcase Ideas

tangogirlApril 27, 2007

I would like to have built-in bookcases for my small foyer. I need some inspiration on bookcase styles. The cases would be built in 3 corners of this foyer and entry way with 9 foot ceilings. I live in an apt so there is not much light in this space. The walls will be painted a pale, dusty blue with a dove white ceiling and moldings.

I like contemporary styles and light colored wood. I don't want a lot of ornate detail but want some interesting detail so that the cases are not so severe-looking. Can anyone provide any links or photos of bookcases made with interesting wood that won't break the bank? Thanks.

Google with the words Maple bookcase---and use the Image section of Google.

You will see what this light colored wood looks like and how it can be stained.

Most furniture today is made using plywood for large flat pieces. Lumberyards---real ones, not Home Depot/Lowe's/Menards/etc.-----carry or can order any kind of hardwood plywood---maple, oak, cherry, walnut, or even exotics.

Consider purchasing bookcases and then having them permanently installed.
You can apply trim to the front where the units meet to hide the joint, and the price is a lot cheaper.
Even if you had to have them cut down in width or height top get a good fit.
