Help Identify the wood

ednarg27April 26, 2012

My sister gave me two slipper chairs to refinish. They were taken from my grandmother's house. Only markings were on the bottom - "DL Tipo Pallini, made in Italy"

I need to replace and splice in broken sections. I'm not sure what type of wood this is though. Any help would be much appreciated! thanks!

No telling, since there are all kinds of different woods in other countries. I'd guess olive wood, being from Italy.

You are going to have a very tough time identifying the wood, and if you do, possibly an even harder time finding replacement stock. Your best bet is probably to find a similar grained american wood and attempt to stain it to match. You will never make it perfect, but a good job will hardly be noticed unless you are actively looking for it. Certainly a beautiful chair worth restoring. Good luck.
