how to get the color in

west9491April 3, 2010

I just got some white pine trim from my father in law, who makes it. we are trying to make it look like the old trim in our house which is just cheap thin strips (its a mobile home trim so you can get the idea...its stained wood designed paper which has been wrapped onto the trim peices).

I went to a local hardware store and bought a can of stain, I brought with me a sample piece of my old trim to try to match it, I found the closest thing. we have stained everything and the wood which should look like a normal oak color, has been stained and looks kinda reddish. It's not abnormal looking for anything, but it doesn't look good in the house.

to be exact the name of the stain is "colonial maple 223", miniwax brand.

i'll try to take pics and post.

Start mixing colors and testing on pieces of wood.

It may take two, three, or four or more colors to get a decent match.
